September 2017 Course
We are launching a new course for beginners in lifesaving!
Join us starting on Tuesday 26th September 2017, for the start of a brand-new lifesaving course!
What is it?
Learn Self-Survival skills, Water Rescues and Lifesaving Skills in a fun and rewarding environment. Members will learn all of the skills required to pass the 'Survive & Save' programme provided by the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS UK). Members will learn essential lifesaving skills including CPR and First Aid. The courses we run can also count towards your Duke of Edinburgh Award, as either the Sport or Skills elements and may also count towards GCSE PE (for some exam boards).
Earn awards and create new friendships in a safe environment. Our average member is aged between ten and sixteen, so you will be able to find someone you can get along with, while learning a brand skill set of skills.
Our teachers and coaches have countless years of experience and an endless knowledge in lifesaving. We allow students to take a path of their choice through the award scheme, which includes basic life support, basic rescues, open-water lifesaving, beach lifesaving, lifeguarding and sport lifesaving.
When and where is it?
Training takes place on Tuesday evenings from 8pm to 10pm. The first hour is dryside, where we teach theory and skills such as First Aid and CPR. The second hour is in the swimming pool, where you get to put those skills into practice! All of our lessons involve interesting and fun activities, with loads of practical hands-on learning.
We meet outside of the changing rooms, on the high tables in K2 Crawley. The dryside training then takes place in Conference Room 2, and the pool training will take place in the 50m pool.
How much will it cost?
Each session costs £5, but members who pay by standing order will only pay £17 per month. In addition to this, there is an annual membership fee (pro-rata) costing £24 and renewed in January.
Awards are taken as and when the student is ready, so there is not necessarily a length of time until the end of the course. There is an additional cost for each award achieved, which goes directly to the Royal Life Saving Society (the governing body for lifesaving in the UK). The cost of an award is generally around £15.
If you are interested in joining, then you are welcome to come along for a free trial of two weeks. If you decide to join after that, then we can arrange membership and payment.
If you are coming along for the start of the new course on 26th September 2017, then feel free to let us know, or just turn up on the night.
You must be able to swim a full length of the pool without stopping; unfortunately we are not swimming teachers and cannot take anyone who is not a competent enough swimmer. If you are unsure, please get in contact!
